Celebrate 100 Years of Winter Tradition in Steamboat SpringsBeginning as the organizing committee for the first Winter Carnival, the Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club (SSWSC) has maintained the Steamboat Springs Winter Carnival as a service to the community since 1914, making it the oldest, continuous winter carnival west of the Mississippi.  Winter Carnival started as a way to help residents cope with cabin fever during the height of the Colorado winter season. The event continues to this day as a way to celebrate winter; as a reason for neighbors to gather; and as an opportunity for everyone to experience a piece of Ski Town USA® history and tradition.

We haven't been there for this before but have been told it is so much fun; there are lots of activities, contests and races. Snow is predicted on Saturday and Sunday, we are expecting it to be really cold. Hunter will be hanging with Lily at our daughter's home; don't think he'll miss us at all. I doubt I'll have any time to pop over and say hi, but know I'll be back(hopefully with lots of photos)on Monday or Tuesday.

  4. My nephew works in Evergreen and they are having some festival this weekend but they were banking up snow in shady spots to still have snow around. Although I've heard there is supposed to be snow this weekend., so maybe it will seem more like a winter wonderland.
Have fun. We were in Steamboat two years ago but didn't do much exploring with the elderly parents. There is a business out there that you can pay for a day or half day and they teach you how to drive big machines like construction crews use. That was my dads 80th birthday gift. He was a little boy again.
