Good Morning Friends~I know this is getting repetitious, but truly Alaska is such a jewel and beautiful beyond words and photos. Mt. McKinley is breathtaking; we never saw the mountain totally but did get several shots of her base and also the top. I am amazed at how many people climb this mountain each year; she stands at 20,320'. I was also impressed that Susan Butcher and her husband took the dogs to the summit when she was alive. Given the fact, that most of the towns we saw have an elevation less than ours here in Colorado, makes this feat even more impressive.
We stopped at port in Skagway and enjoyed walking around town. I will be sharing more photos of this quaint town tomorrow.
Our next tour was of Hubbard Glacier. I will tell you that I wasn't sure they would excite me like they did; nature at its finest. The colors were incredible and the sounds and smells(yes, the glaciers have a very sweet smell) surprised us; each time there was a crack or a bang we were be scanning to see which area was "caving".
We had such fun with our friends, Jim and Barbara. We not only saw the sights and toured together but we also played cards and games almost every night. We travel with them every two years and I think we all decided that this was the best trip ever!
While we did see many Orcas, hubby saw some Humpback Whales as well. I only saw one bear(a disappointment) but seeing all the wildlife up close was also a highlight for me.
I hope you've enjoyed today's photos too; prior to our trip, I'm not sure that Glaciers would have excited me as much as they did.
So today, get out and spend some time outdoors and in nature!
