Yesterday morning, I was just leaving with Hunter on a walk and when I went out the front door was surprise to see this beautiful butterfly on the wall near the door. It startled me because of its size; I quickly realized that it had just emerged from its cocoon. I ran back inside to get my camera because I knew you'd all enjoy seeing it too.
Hubby came home and I had to show him as well.  I don't know how to tell a male from a female, but she sure was gorgeous; I think she was still wet as it appeared her wings were sticking together.
I meant to google butterflies to find out the average time they take before they fly away.  With Monarch's, it seems they leave quickly but I bet she was on our step for about 15 min.  I was actually worried that something was wrong but eventually she was gone.

As a young wife, mother and a new christian I once heard women described as butterflies-that we are delicate but strong, carried on the wings of emotion and flutter in the highs and lows of life. Men, with their brute strength are more like bulls-they charge into situations and often trample on delicate creatures under their feet.  At the time I thought this was a wonderful description of the differences between the sexes; not to be offensive to either.
We are now off to the clip and snip-oh my poor little Hunter.
I hope your day is better than his.
Blessings, Noreen & Hunter

  2. What a perfect way to start your day!!! That butterfly is beautiful. I have noticed several in the yard these past few days, and they are so pretty. I loved your description of the sexes, with the butterfly. So nice.
I hope Hunter's day goes well, and he is on the mend and back to normal right away!

  3. I was dying to know what this butterfly was, so I googled it, and found he is an Eastern Tiger Swallowtail (Papilio glaucus), and you can see a bunch of pics matching him on this site.....

  4. Good luck Hunter. I hope this is the only surgery you ever have to have.

As for the beautiful butterfly, what a great opportunity to see it as it came out of its cacoon.

We are just now seeing the Monarch coming back to our area. They have been gone for around 8 years so My Vickie is extra excited every time we see one.

Hunter, take it easy and make the most of this down time.

  8. Oh how beautiful! And how blessed you were to see it just as it emerged from the cocoon.

I'm a little behind on blog reading, so by now Hunter is no doubt doing much better. Poor little guy. ;-)
