Thankful Thursday

Happy Thursday to you. It is supposed to be in the high 70's or low 80's here today and after our walk, I plan on spending a good part of the day in the garden. How about you? When it's sunny and nice, are you drawn to the yard?

Many of you may remember that last spring we had a wreath on the wall next to our front door and house sparrows made a nest in it, hatched four fledglings; it was so fun to watch but let me tell you it was also quite a mess.  In fact, some of the paint came off as we scrubbed the area, after the birds had flown the nest.  This year I put up another decoration, with silk cherry blossoms; when we returned from our vacation I saw bird activity and told hubby we needed to take it down before they laid eggs.  Too late; so we have been watching the parents come and go all week.  Yesterday I had hubby look and sure enough we had one baby bird; it is hard to see and at this stage they are pretty ugly.  This morning I told hubby we are putting a flat wall plaque up next year; I always worry when people come to the front door and the parents take flight.  Since this is the second year for nesting, I imagine they'll be somewhere on the porch next spring.
Hopefully we will continue to get photos as the days pass.  I so love nature-birds, bunnies, Monk seals, puppies-they all make my heart sing.
Hunter continues to grow more confident each day; he enjoys his walks but hasn't yet gotten comfortable enough to play with the other dogs.  He saw Lily yesterday and was definitely interested, Lexie as well.  He is doing well on a leash and harness.  It would seem his big burst of energy is in the evening-he ran wild last night, doing circles around our family room.  All we could do was laugh.
Have a wonderful day , don't forget to count your blessings.
Noreen & Hunter

  1. Hi Nor! Oh...I have a bad case of bird envy!!! I have some grapevine pockets on my front doors and no little birdies! Wahhh!!! What a sweet picture! I want to see more, so keep snapping, ok?

    Love you bunches!
    9 days...I can make it!!!

  2. I love birds and nature. I love watching a nest of babies grow and eventually, fledge. But I must say, I am glad that I was able to avert them from both my front and back doors!! Hoping they find another adequate space to raise their families. Have a lovely day in the garden!!
    XO Kris

  3. Good morning! I love watching the birds with their babies too, but I will admit NOT on my front porch. Been there, done that, haha, and we actually ended up with a bird IN our house (at our old house) once which was really quite the ordeal. Have a wonderful day my sweet friend!

  4. One year we had swallows build a nest at our front door. What a mess! Mom and dad thought it was cute but it turned out to be "something to avoid in the future". Now every year they try to rebuild so me and Stanley have to bark at them!

    Your friends,

    Murphy & Stanley

  5. Hello Noreen and Hunter! I have so loved catching up on your blog in a few stolen moments today! I'm so glad that Hunter is settling in and doing well!! He's really a cutie, and I know a cutie when I see one!! :-)))

  6. I love the birds that have come to nest close to you! I hope they don't get scared away.

Don't you just love it when those puppies go "crazy" and race around like they are on on a mission? Our Smokey used to do that and it never failed to make me laugh right out loud.

I hope you had a wonderful day, Noreen- xo Diana

  7. Hello my sweet friend!!!! I went back and read all of your posts and your Sweet little Hunter is just DARLING!!! His face is just precious!

Isn't it wonderful when we are able to experience Gods creatures like that! Up close and personal :) Here's a funny story that I think you might appreciate...

Every year around now, my Little Brother would go outside ready to grill dinner for himself and his daughters. It never failed that he would open his grill and wouldn't you know there it is. The nest, the eggs, and Momma & Daddy somewhere watching and waiting to return to their nest!

  8. We have had birds come and nest in our front porch light at the are was a MESS when they were done!! I try to keep foil around the top when we close up so that when we open in the spring, we don't have more birds. Chloe really did enjoy it though...she just LOVED watching HER birds for hours on end. How is Hunter doing? Hope things are moving right along!! He will get used to things...sometimes it just takes a little while!!

  9. We had a robin's nest on the steps leading to our deck when we got back from our Florida trip in March. Unfortunately mama bird abandoned the deck. :-(

  10. What a treat to have baby birds on their way....We have a cardinal's nest in my arbor and they have a fit every time we go near....So much fun to watch.....

I am loving hearing all about Hunter.....He's beautiful and I know you are having a ball with him.....

  11. Love, Love, LOVE to watch your birds hatch. Don't take this delight from all of us. *grin*

PS. Hunter. absolutely precious. Hugging you.
