Happy June to you! This weekend was quite busy for us, but productive. On Saturday, hubby and I had been downtown and were coming home when we spotted a very large turtle trying to cross our main road. I'm assuming it was a male and he had been living in a local wetlands near a lake, that is now flooding and I think he was trying to get to dryer ground. As we passed by, hubby said he couldn't believe how big it was and that it would be hit. Now, for those who live in the eastern US, turtles are very common I know. Here however, we see them in the rivers but not on the roads. So what does a good hubby do, but swing a u-turn and we head back so he can rescue the turtle. We pulled off into the bike lane(thankfully no one was riding in it), put on our emergency flashers and he jumped out of the car. He carefully picked up the turtle, who tried to bite him and climbed over the guard rail, putting the turtle back in the tall grasses. My daughter asked if I took photos to which I said no; I was too busy watching traffic to make sure the cars were giving my hubby the room he needed. Hubby knows what an animal lover I am(except for mice, rats, cockroaches) and once again he is my hero.
This is the fist year we've ever had Peonies in our yard; I have looked at the plants before but found they were too pricey. At our new home, we have several plants and here is my first cutting.
They are such a beautiful plant and I can't wait to see what other colors we have.

Interesting :-) a turtle. For sure the turtle was very thankful. We had a late Spring so our summer flowers too. No Peonies yet but can't wait to see it bloom. Your is very lovely. Have a wonderful Monday. Golden Woofs.

ReplyDeleteYay for your hubby rescuring that turtle. Beautiful peonies! My MIL had a lot ... I'm wishing I had gotten some starts ... of course the farm had been sold by the time we moved here, so I wouldn't have any peonies anyway.

YAY for hubby's who save turtles :) When we lived in NE California we had a couple of peonies plants and I loved them. I think it's too hot here but they sure are pretty! Enjoy yours! Blessings, Cindy
ReplyDeleteWe have lots of box turtles here and we always stop to pick them up and carry them across the road. We save some and lose some.

ReplyDeleteYeah on saving the turtle and not losing a finger! They can bite them off. Was probably a snapper if it tried to bite.
