Thankful Thursday

Posted by Picasa
Good Morning Friends~I'm so thankful today: for life, grace, love, mercy and for all those special people in my life-including you! I am here to tell you that Hunter's annual appt. went really well yesterday; his vet was very understanding and actually said the "flu shot" is a "lifestyle choice", when I asked what that meant, she told me it is for those pups whose owners constantly travel and leave the dog at the kennel for long periods of time. As good as any kennel is, with the exception of Bert's and Miss Vickie's being over the top, it still isn't home and they can't possibly get the same care they do when they are home. I guess there are some owners that might not be true with, but you get my meaning. Hunter is at a perfect weight-12 lbs 3 oz. and all muscle. Aside from having to take blood for the heartworm test and to check his liver/kidney functions, receive a couple of shots-well he did fine. Scared but fine. I really like the vet; it is just that I think many folks would rather go back to a simpler days when animal care was more reasonable. Now, you all know how much we love our little Hunter, so don't misunderstand me. For many years, I wasn't able to afford dental or eye exams and to think of spending more money on our pets, than I do on myself, always made me shake my head.  We have always given our dogs the very best care; I just don't always think every new shot is needed. I'd say that many of you feel the same way. I am thankful that the appt. went so well and that Hunter is healthy.
The rest of our day yesterday was great; we headed up to the Rockies, shopping for some snowshoes for next year and looking for wildlife.  We didn't find any snowshoes that we were wanting to buy; in fact the used, really beat up ones that are rentals were $90.  I am glad we drove up though! We did some a few herds of Elk but didn't get any photos-sorry!  On the way home, it started to hail and by the time we got home it was raining hard. It rained all evening and it still cloudy today; I'll be walking in an hour so I hope the rain holds off.  I am meeting a close friend for lunch and then our daughter's crew will be here, while she goes to the dr.  Her hubby is busy all day so they will be staying for dinner-Tacos.  An easy way to feed kiddos that are going through a growth spurt.
Tomorrow we are heading, if it isn't raining too much, to a amusement park in Denver with our other daughter's family.  I won't be riding on all rollercoasters but will be watching over the littlest ones.  It should be loads of fun!  I am so thankful that our daughters and their families live so close. I am thankful that hubby and I are able to be active in their lives.
I hope you have had a good week so far; just think it is almost over.
Blessings, Noreen & Hunter

  4. Glad to hear that everything went well at the vet. I love when I get a chance to see Elk. We sometimes see them in the summer driving to or from Mammoth Lakes, CA. Hope you had a good walk...I need to start doing that! Also I hope the rain stops so you can enjoy the amusement park.

  5. Hunter is a beautiful dog! I'm glad his appointment went well.

Hopefully you'll find just the right snowshoes before next season arrives. My snowshoes are very old --- and are ones my dad made for me when I was a teen. I suppose that makes me old too! Lol!

  6. Hi Sweetie,
Love this pic of you and Hunter, and so glad he did well. Things here will change big time in a few weeks, and hopefully get us back to normal. One of the girls and her family have been living with us for 3-4 months now, and they will move out on June 1. Been so...SO busy, and can't even imagine having quiet again on a daily basis. Of course, we'll miss them, and have had sooo many fun times, too! Hugs to you! I am on a shop and blog break for the next few weeks...it won't be all play, though, still working on new shop stuff!
    Love ya,
    Beck

  8. Good to hear that Hunter's appointment went well. Vet care is so expensive. Mom has often thought about pet insurance, but she isn't sure if it actually saves much, especially with four of us.

Have fun at the park - hope the weather is good.

Mom says thanks for the support on the Pinterest idea - now for her to find time to delve into it:)

Pee Ess - that is such a beautiful photo of you and Hunter.

  9. Very glad the my pal Hunter did so well at the vet. MOM knows what you mean about pet health cost. While my vet is very reasonable and he is GREAT, the cost can be high at times for stuffs. It is sort of raining here with the occasional huge down pour. I hope it is not headed your way.
    Blessings,

  12. Hi Noreen, I am very glad to hear about Hunter doing well at the vet. I totally agree with you about the expense side of pet ownership. We have difficulty sometimes because each of the girlz has to go for what the vet calls Well Pet Visits and if they do not go once per year, then they will not prescribe metacam which both of them take on occasion. I actually ave two vets for them. One close to home here...and one up near the cottage. It seems we have had to visit both for different things...one of our dogs fell off the dock and onto a railroad track. That was quite an ordeal as he weighed over 100 pounds! I was able to get him into my car, but they had to sedate him and do full xrays...that was a very expensive visit. As you said, we love them so much and want to do what is best for them, but it s very difficult financially. I find myself asking any more questions these days! Thank you for all your kind words, Noreen, I am hanging in there.

  15. What a busy life you lead. Sorry that you didn't get any pics when you went to the Rockies. And...decisions about vacs for pets. It's as hard as making the decisions for your children!! Life is strange, isn't it?? Joan
