A Small Project

Happy Friday to you! Well, hubby has flown the nest for the weekend so I've got tons of time on my hands. This was a small kit I got in Alaska, a wall hanging to remind me of our trip. As many of you know, I love quilting-especially hand quilting but somehow I never got into Applique. I tried it and even took a class at Pacific International Quilt Show but just never mastered it. In fact, to be honest I will tell you that I've been intimidated by it for years now. So when I saw how easy this technique is, I knew I had to give it a try. My bff, Barb aka quilter extraordinaire, helped me when we were in Ca. I'd love to say that this weekend I am going to put a back on it and do fmq, but I've also got a new book to review and those doll clothes to begin. This would only take a bit of time, so we will see.

Our girl, Kim and her family, are going down to the Springs for the night;  Hunter will have Petrol here to play with. The pups get along so well, I know they'll have a ball. We woke up to snow on the ground today and I am so very thankful that our furnace got fixed last night. Apparently, when you hook up a new thermostat, you need to turn the power off-which hubby didn't do. This caused a fuse to blow out; it was so an easy and cheap fix-lesson learned. Now I have to figure out how to program it today. Wish me luck. I don't have a lot of plans for the weekend~maybe going to Homegoods, Kohl's and Hobby Lobby. Monday I have our craft group and need to get materials for our project. I hope you have a warm and wonderful day!
Hugs, Noreen & Hunter

  2. Hi Noreen. I have missed being a regular visitor to your blog, and to so many others I love to read. I feel like I have been treading water, and am losing the fight. I have been overwhelmed with so many things since Nana's death. I hope you are well. I am so impressed with your wall hanging. It is beautiful!!!! Enjoy your time to yourself while hubby is away.
    Miss you,
    xo Kris

  3. love the wall hanging! I have done alot of applique on clothing and shirts etc., but just the heat and bond method. One of the quilt runners I did had an appliqued star on it so I just did the method I knew how and it seemed to work fine. Did you applique yours on with stitching? just curious, whatever the method it looks beautiful! Enjoy your week-end. Glad the heater got fixed!

I wanted to stop by and thank you for stopping by our blog. Dory (as well as Bilbo) are both Lhasa Apsos, Jakey is a Lhasa Poodle mix and Arty is a Shi tzu. Dory does aspire to be a princess as many of her Maltese friends..;-)

It is windy and chilly but not enough for snow all though I can feel and smell it in the air . Thanks for sharing ! Have a good weekend and Hunter you look after Mama this weekend since daddy isn't there !

  10. Oh, I'm in awe ... I would LOVE to be able to do nice applique work, but I'm so intimidated by it. I took a needleturn applieque class, but the teacher had us work on a heart ... others have told me that the curves are trickier and for a beginner's class, a straight line would have been easier. I needed a third hand ... I just couldn't seem to handle it all with my two hands. Some of the quilters on the Celebrate Handquilting FB page say that backbasting is an easier technique for applique ... I'd like to give that a try. Maybe after I can resume handwork. ;-)

  12. Hi Noreen! Your applique is lovely! I did it years ago, and turned out well with the help of a good friend, but I've never tried it since. But it does make a nice touch to your home or a gift, doesn't it?

I hope you've enjoyed your weekend--HomeGoods is one of my favorite places!

  13. I love a little bit of hand sewing, I think it makes the project that much more beautiful. What a wonderful reminder of your trip too!

No snow here thankfully, we still have too many leaves on the trees and that would be disastrous!

Enjoy the rest of your weekend.
