From My Bookshelf

When Thanksgiving rolled around, I put my quilt in progress up on my design wall until after the holidays; I knew I probably wouldn't get to it and having it out of site relieved me of the pressure to work on it.  Needless to say, I began reading-mostly library books over the holidays; I love to read and this year have utilized our library more than in past years.  My number one favorite story line is Amish and our library didn't disappoint me.  Here are three of those that I read in the last couple of weeks.

I'm still finishing The Wounded Heart but am enjoying this story; I haven't read this author's books before but will look for more of hers.  A good read.
I have read other books in this series and while I found it easy reading, I don't think it held my interest as well as Shelley's other books have-but I will read more of her in the future.
Marta Perry is becoming one of my favorite Amish story tellers; I loved this book-probably more than the other two.  This is a must read for anyone who loves Amish stories.  I haven't read all her previous books in the series, mainly because our library didn't have them in; today when I return all these books I'll look to see if they have more of her books.
Having said that I already have two more books here at home to read; one I won from a blog and I will be highlighting it soon.
It is so cold and windy here today; we haven't gotten any snow and probably won't, but it is a good day to stay in and quilt or read-both are on my list for today.
Have a wonderful Wednesday.

  1. We're having the same kind of weather....cold, rainy and dark which as you said are perfect days to stay inside with a good book or in my case knitting.....

Thanks for the reading suggestions; I have not read any of these...

  2. Karen Kingsbury is one of my favorite Christian novelists. I am happy she is such a prolific writer. She keeps me in reading material that I love. Her Redemption series is about 20 books long and I have loved following her characters through her writing.

  4. I have been reading the Amish series and love it.It gives you the sense of how they really do live this way, peaceful and for the Lord.
Enjoy reading and quilting and stay out of the rain and wond.
I can't believe there has been no snow to really say it snowed.
We still have our fire going and I am going to curl up with a hot cup of Chi tea and read a few chapters of the book I have been reading. Evverything in the homestead is done and dinner in the crockpot and homemade dessert ready for Mr. Hillcrest for when he gets home from work.

  5. Hi Noreen, Thank you so much for stopping by my blog and leaving such encouaraging words. Yes, it has been a tough year and I am happy to see a new one begin.
Have you checked out anything from Amy Cliptson? She writes mostly Amish stories. I think she is on number 5 of her Kauffman Amish Bakery Series. Delightful reads!
Hope to be able to check in with you more often - Blessings :)

  6. I have to agree with Marta Perry. She is a great author. I enjoy Amish as well although I'm finding some of the storylines very similar. My altime favorite is historical fiction. Hugs

  7. It is cold and rainy here today and would love to have stayed in and read, or blogged~ ~smile~, but had to run errands, just got back home and have a few minutes to visit. One of my goals this year is to read more, that is if I can stay off the computer. lol.
    Enjoy your quilting, and reading.
    Hugs,
    Sue

  8. I totally love the Amish story lines too. I have several, but none of these. I will keep an eye out for them. We have at least dropped our temps back into the low 60's. I would soo love a good, cold snowy day. Hope yours is a good one! HUGS

  9. Those books do sound good. I have read a series by Beverly Lewis...with The Covenant, etc. Enjoyed them very much...It is now cold and blustery here with a bit of snow falling on our bare brown ground. Winter might actually be here.

  10. I enjoy the Amish stories too. I am not sure any longer which ones I have read or not read just by the titles.

  11. Oh Noreen - I can't tell you how much your comments have meant to me! Thank you so much for your visits! I just have to share about your posts first :) I just read my first Shelly Shephard Gray book - it was a Christmas story (the title escapes me) and I enjoyed it very much! I haven't heard of the other two authors but will be checking them out. I have kept the number of book reviews down so far this year. Just had too many going on top of everything else.
Ok your post about Your SouthAfrican friends .... Isn't God just beyond WONDERFUL...there is NO OTHER WAY to even explain those friendships not only with you but with each other than just saying GOD soooo orchestrated every bit of it! Just makes me want to cry!

In response to your question about working out ... Let me just say I see absolutely NO "winter fluff" on you!!!!
I go to the gym no less than 4 times a week. I typically don't go on the weekend and sometimes take a day off during the week. It kind of depends on the workouts. If we get a calm workout then I won't take a break. I have found that with me I just need to move. If I stay at home and am on the computer most of the day or sit and read I find that with my joint issues I have a much harder time getting through the day. What I would suggest is doing high impact aerobic every other day & then do the weights & conditioning on the other days.Whatever you choose, just remember that consistency is so important. When we have been going consistently and then we take like 3 or 4 days (or more) off, for some, it is like starting over! I hope some of this helps :) Much love to you my sweet friend!
