A Bit Of Our Home

Welcome to my home. Yesterday I mentioned we had several antique pieces and today I thought I'd share them with you.
This was my mom and dad's dining room buffet~some might call it a side-board. It was made in the 1920's and although needs to be restored it is still such a wonderful piece of furniture. We have the table and six chairs that match it. On the top you will notice a clock which was a wedding present for my parents. When we moved here it stopped working and we've got to get this in to the clock shop here to be fixed. It chimes and once you get used to the sound you really miss it when it stops.

Several days ago dear hubby saw a dining room hutch or buffet that had lamps on each side and he loved the look, so promptly told me we needed to get some. Today we ran all over looking at stores for them but couldn't find anything just right. Our last stop was Target and we found these and I think they fit perfectly. They didn't break the bank, so to speak, but add just a bit of formality. Above the buffet I have one of three Thomas Kinkaid prints and I love to change out the other items I display depending on the season. I also need to find new fabric to recover the chairs; I last did this about 20 years ago and fortunately hubby had a slight run in with the fabric on one chair so now I don't need to wait any longer.
This was my mother's Singer treadle sewing machine. I still have the machine although it doesn't work and needs to be restored so it isn't inside the cabinet. About 10 years ago hubby had the cabinet restored for my birthday and I love it. I always display some of my country things on it and in our house it sits in the entry way.
Hubby collects antique cameras and golf clubs but we don't have those displayed right now; we packed up much of our things when we anticipated moving. I also have several antique quilts as well as a few pieces of crystal and creamers. The beauty of antiques is enhanced when they were owned by family members. Hubby and I love antiquing and look forward to more trips in the future.

  4. Very nice. I have some of my Grandmothers pieces. I have my moms singer (she sewed all of our clothes). It is in the garage and needs to be restored. We may need those if there is ever a long period of time without electricity (o:

  6. Noreen,
Your hutch is beautiful! The lamps look lovely with it. I also love your Thomas Kinkade print...I love his work! My sister has a Singer sewing machine that belonged to our Grandmother. Yours is beautiful. It's wonderful to have antiques, especially when they are handed down by family. Thank you for sharing them.

  8. Oh I love the buffet, it is just gorgeous, and so nice to have family pieces. I drooled over the sewing machine. My mom had one like it and that's what I learned to sew on. I wish she had kept it, I would love to have it now. Thanks you so much for stopping by my blog and your gracious comments, I do so appreciate it. I'm glad I found your blog also. I will be back. Hugs, Marty

  9. Hello,
Oh!!! I loved these antiques!!! The treadle sewing machine looks like the one that I have that belonged to my grandmother, both look like they are in excellent condition. I love the details and the color of the wood!! Thank you for sharing.
Thank you for stopping by and for your sweet words of encouragement!
The main reason I wanted to start blogging was to find and make friendships with christian women who want to please God by loving their families , and for us to be able to share with each other. And I am so glad that our paths have crossed.
    Blessings,
    Sue
