Happy Fourth of July

To all our friends, near and far, we wish you a blessed and safe Fourth of July.
Today I will be scurrying around, getting things all set for the grands sleepover tonight.  There are tents to make, furniture to re-arrange and snacks to buy.  Having seven of them here is a huge deal for them;  I do want to have each group over several more times but tonight will be a big party.  It will be interesting to see what Hunter thinks about it all; I'm planning on having each them give him training treats throughout the time, so hopefully he will feel more relaxed with them.  We were over at one of the homes yesterday and he played like there was no tomorrow with Lily, maybe I should have her come along too.
Our monsoon season started last night and I can tell you it was so nice to go outside and feel the mist.  The lawn even felt softer-if that is possible.
One of the interesting things I've found with  having a small dog, even heard it is more a small dog trait(that may not be totally true)is that you can leave their food down and they just nibble on it throughout the day instead of wolfing it down, like all the big dogs we've ever had have done.  Hunter and I had a talk last night about accidents and although I do understand when you've got to go, you've got to go, but he was informed if he had one more at night Momma was going to buy another crate for our bedroom.  I know it was a big mistake not to have one in there from the get go, but hubby really didn't want one in our bedroom; however I don't want carpet ruined.  He had been doing so well and to be honest, I know that I just wasn't waking up and recognizing his signals, so I truly feel like this issue has been my fault.  I'm thinking that I really need to sign him up for a beginner training class as well, so that he gets more socialized and used to lots of different sights and sounds.
We will be going to our daughter's party tomorrow afternoon and then go to our annual town concert and fireworks show. That is if I can stay awake for it after tonight.
What are your plans for tomorrow?  Have a great day today.
Hugs and blessings,  Noreen & Hunter

  2. I bet Hunter will really like all the training treats, I know I would. Will Hunter being going to the fireworks with you? Do you know if he is afraid of the BOMB? It doesn't bother me, I don't even notice. But some of my friends are really afraid of it. Have a happy 4th.
    Blessings,

  4. Mom leaves our food and water down all the time. She said she has always done that and not had a problem. In the beginning me and Stanley slept in kennels in the bedroom but quite some time ago we moved onto the bed. We sleep through the night but mom wonders if we were able to jump off the bed if I might have a pee. Stanley doesn't have accidents but I do about once a week (usually in the evening). Mom is still trying to figure out our signals. Mostly she says were just get a certain look on our faces when we look out the door.

  5. Have fun with the grands Noreen!
I think crates are a wonderful teaching tool with a pup. And they feel so safe to sleep there. Ducey had one, and we kept it in our room for his first year. Now he is fine, of course.
No more crate. But we even took it in the motorhome with us.
Have a safe and fun filled 4th!!

  6. Have a fun time although I know you will be busy, busy, busy. We used to allow our Springers to feed at will until the vet told us we should feed twice a day and then remove the food. He said it makes treatment decisions more difficult if the dog gets sick and the owners cannot say when the dog last ate. We also found that regular feeding led to more regular BMs. Might be worth a try.

  7. Sounds as if you are going to have a wonderful couple of days! I had to laugh when I read about the mist. We've had mist or rain here for weeks. Trade you some if you like!?
    Have a great 4th. Joan

  9. Noreen, I was so glad you stopped by Heart Choices to visit me. And yes, we both know what was left unsaid in my post but we're still praying and believing God for the impossible.

I've thought of you and the fires in Colorado. I pray that you are far enough away from it.

    Sending you love and hugs,
    Debbie

  10. Oh, what a wonderful blog you have! Thank you for visiting mine, and I am following yours now, too. Your 4th of July plans sound perfect and I hope the sleepover tonight is a blast! Our 5th will be a lttle quieter than the past several years, as we have moved from our small town that holds a BIG 4th celebration, and we are going to spend it with our oldest daughter and her family. Our new neighborhood has events planned, too, that we may join in on, although fireworks have been banned due to the severe heat and dryness all around us. We have many fires going here, too; such a contrast from last year's flooding.

It is a joy to find another sister in the Lord, and I know I will enjoy visiting you often!
