It's Tuesday and if you could see me now, you would watch me doing the Happy Dance as dear hubby got home yesterday. Yippee!!!!! For the last 25+ years hubby has gone on at least one annual golf trip, if not more. I have always been supportive of this because I realize that he does need guy time(o.k. I hope I've always been supportive), so I am quite used to this by now.
He had a great time and was invited back next year. I find it interesting that I feel safer here than I did in California, even with our best friends right next door. Not quite sure what the reason is but I had a very relaxed time.
I will confess that there was a period of about four years when my next door neighbor-aka best friend-and I traveled to major quilt shows or weekend quilt retreats. We always had a blast and often when starting out felt more like teenagers than middle aged women-which means we turned up the car stereo, sang and talked non-stop. By the time we headed home you could tell we were pretty tired as our chatter had definitely slowed down. I haven't had a girl weekend away since we moved and truth be told, in the last number of years in Ca. each time we had hoped to plan one, one of our daughters was expecting to have her baby thus necessitating my being within close proximity. That is probably one reason why I understand hubby's trips besides the fact that I miss my girl weekends with a certain someone-Hey Barb, are you up for a trip???? LOL.
Do you get a chance to go away for a weekend with just a girlfriend or two? Let's hear about it.
Have a beautiful day.
Blessings, Noreen

  1. Ah Noreen, this post was near and dear to my heart. I was living that life, going here, going there, with hubby, with friends...etc. Then my middle daughter had her son. She is a single mom. I made the decision to provide his child care needs. And while I am so glad that is what I am doing, it has also left me yearning for those care free times too. But you and I both know how fast they grow up, and I shall be foot loose and fancy free again in due time. What better gift could I be giving my grandson right now, than my time. Glad hubby had a good golf excursion! Now and Barb get out there and go!!

  2. so glad he is home....but those times alone can be fun too. I love the girlfriend trip. Have not done that in awhile though. WE had one planned in July and something came up for her...boo who.
Oh well there will be another (o: there is always an adventure around the corner. Just have to wait and see what God has planned for us.
We love ladderball too. tried to get Kyla to play it on our camping trip but she hates throwing anything. Have to work on that. She hates it because she is not good at it,,,,so maybe practice would help.
I still have that BBQ in mind. Everything got so busy. We are gone the first week in Aug. after that we should be able to plan something (o: Did we say here or there? I mentioned it to Marlene at church the other day too.

  3. I have not...and it sounds wonderful. I have had MANY MANY days where I have spent the entire day doing the "girl" things...shopping, lunching, girl movies, nails, chatting and chatting and chatting etc. But no entire week-ends away. It really does sound good. I may have to plan one. Have a good day Noreen. HUGS, Debbie

  4. Just popping over from Debbie's blog - loved your post today! I LOVE getaways with my girlfriends. I enjoy going and I especially enjoy planning - I am planning a daytrip, perhaps over for one night, to a small town about 1 1/2 hours from here...lots of cute antique stores along the drive and the coolest store (The Country House) once we get there. Can you tell most of my getaways revolve shopping!!:) That, and eating!! Hope you and your friend can plan something new soon -

    Have a great Tuesday! Jennifer

  6. I can only imagine your happy dance :) I would have been doing one too!! I think I could have written this post except I didn't go to quilt shows I would have been going away to Womens Retreats or Conferences. I haven't been in the last few years and I miss them!

Hope you get to go away and SOON!!

  7. Girlfriend times away can be so fun! It's been years though since I've done that too. I love to have Greg at home but welcome it when there's some alone time too. I hope you know what I mean. I'm glad you're doing well in Colorado.

    Blessings and love,
    Debbie

  8. You're a good wife to give your husband some guy time, Noreen. Mine is going to the mountains this weekend to the Bible school where our daughter works for a men's retreat. They will shoot bows and guns and listen to a Christian man speak. (I'm sure he loves bows and guns too.)
I started hunting a little with my husband after our daughter graduated from high school. Our 9 year old is too talkative and wiggly to come along so I only go with him on rare occasions at this time. Pretty soon the little guy will be old enough for bow and rifle hunters safety classes though.
Glad your husband is back home with you.

  9. Hello Sister!

Thank you so much for coming by and for the follow. I am returning the favor and I look forward to knowing you better.

Ahhhhh. I rarely get out without my daughter (who is almost 5). I covet the times I get to attend a retreat with the women.

I'm ready for a trip with some girlfriends.

  10. Glad your hubby is home. Mine goes away every summer camping/fishing with his brothers and I always look forward to those few days - it is like a vacation even if I go to work. But I am always happy for him to come home. Some of my fondest memories with friends are when the girls get away even if it is just for the day. I am overdue for a girls only trip.

  11. Oh, I know about that kind of happy dance...my DH travels and it does NOT get any better with time...

Sounds like you really miss those special friend weekends...I have NEVER done that, but am looking forward to one in October....

  12. I enjoy girl trips with friends. And I have been to lots of quilt shows/retreats in the past. I go twice a year for a ladies retreat weekend. We have a group of between 12 to 20 ladies and we stay at a church retreat center for a long weekend. We scrapbook, quilt, paint, etc. for the whole weekend and we share the cooking duties. It is an awesome weekend away. Such great fun and fellowship. We go in the fall and spring. Nothing better than time away with girlfriends to re-charge your battery. Love & blessings from NC!
