Happy Saturday to you! If yesterday was black Friday, is today blue Saturday? Hubby and I didn't go in search of fantastic sales yesterday; I'm sorry, but those crowds are just too much. We had four of our granddaughters over for a sleepover on Thanksgiving night so their mom & dad could hit the sales; I feel like I contributed to the cause by keeping four children from the medley. After the grands went home yesterday, hubby and I began our annual decorating blitz; hubby got called to go over to the golf course early, so I ended up working alone. I now understand why seniors who live alone choose not to decorate. I can't imagine not having holiday decorations, but oh my, it is a lot of work for one person. Thankfully hubby always puts up the tree and puts the lights on it; he also works on our village which frees me up to adorn the tree and put out other pieces. Most of our decorations are about thirty years old and I cherish them; I try to buy at least one new ornament a year for the tree. Above, an end table in the living room shows off our focus.
When I was a child, my parents had a manger scene that we put up every year; it was cracked and abused(by me I'm sure)but we all loved it. When my girls were preschoolers, I got this manger scene; it is almost 30 yrs old and one of my treasured Christmas pieces.
Please forgive my shots today, no fancy lighting etc. I hope to tweak the photo of our tree over the next few days but for now, it will have to suffice.
For many years, I also collected Snowmen, all shapes and sizes. My kitchen cabinets hold my stuffed collection that I will share in another post. This corner is just a little niche-so I added snowmen there this year.
In our family room we have an antique dresser that we refinished; normally it holds quilts, but I will put seasonal decorations on it-hence the candles.
I've spent the day cleaning, doing laundry and trying to get caught up. The only shopping I did today was to the market.
I pray you were blessed with a peaceful day and will enjoy tomorrow.
Blessings,
Noreen

No Black Friday shopping here either - not worth the hassle. Mom has so many Christmas decorations accumulated over many years, but like you, she says it is getting harder and harder for her to do it all every year. We sure hope she gets that tree going soon.
ReplyDeleteYour home looks lovely and how wonderful that the focus is as it should be - the creche.
Woos - Phantom, Ciara, and Lightning
That is a lot of Christmas cheer going on in your house. As you know my MOM is not a decorator for Christmas. Maybe she really is a senior. hahhahaha. Although you may remember that I got her to put up a tiny one foot tree last year. Miracles do happen.

Nope, no Black Friday shopping for me either. I have actually NEVER done that, though hubby did it a couple of times back when there was something very specific we wanted for one of our kids....shows you how long it has been, haha. Though! I did hit Joannes for a while yesterday as they had a few things I couldn't resist. Crowds were not bad at all. Your decorations are lovely. I know what you mean...without hubby's help there is NO WAY I'd do it anymore. Soo much work. I do enjoy it however, and like you, married for soo many years they all bring such memories with them. Enjoy yours Noreen, and your day!
ReplyDeleteNo Black Friday shopping for me. Did a little online shopping before Thanksgiving - what the sites called pre-Black Friday sales. I prefer to do my Christmas shopping online as much as possible! ;-)
ReplyDeleteWe got our tree up and decorated as well as our Christmas village and nativity set up. By the time I finished that, I was wiped out ... the few remaining things will have to wait until tomorrow! ;-)
We are going to go see a manger collection that is supposed to be huge. But mom has not decorated anything yet. She said she might get the tree out so she can take pictures of me and Stanley. We're supposed to get some nasty weather starting tomorrow night. Yikes!
ReplyDeleteYour pals,
Murphy & Stanley
We've not gotten any decorations out yet, but seeing yours makes me want too--Maybe this week. But I'm glad you've had an enjoyable weekend, and I think your contribution to Black Friday was probably a lot more fun than most people had--You and your husband are the best parents/grandparents!! :-)
