On Saturday our oldest daughter and her family ventured to a nearby Fort for a field trip. I've always loved planning children's field trip and helping them to glimpse times past. Being new to our state there is a lot we haven't seen yet so it was fun to drive a short distance for this fort.
I hadn't realized it wasn't a military post but a trading post. There were wonderful things to see and read about and many animal pelts to touch. Our oldest grandson will make his own replica of this for school and I can't wait to see what he produces.
I truly believe one of the best ways to teach children history is for them to experience living history so that it comes alive for them. Saturday was no exception and the man who was working was a wonderful story teller.

ReplyDeleteThat is so nice you could go with your grandchildren and daughter to check out Ft. Vasquez. Forts can be neat. I remember going to Ft. Pickens in Pensacola, Fl as a child, don't remember too much, but I know I thought it was really neat!
