The Finale

Steamboat Springs grand finale was a town parade, featuring 100 different groups. I think the highlight though was the flash mob-so very fun to watch. I have to confess we didn't recognize the song but apparently those participating in it had been practicing for many months.

This was a Flash Mob that half of the town participated in; I hadn't seen one before and it was such fun! Folks of all ages, young and old, were dancing in the street(sounds like a Motown Record doesn't it?!) I had hoped to post a video of the dance but we are having technical difficulties.

Loved seeing the Bernese Mountain Dog Club!
I've had a full day so far~tea with friends first thing and then came home and headed south to meet a friend for lunch.  This is a friend from almost thirty years ago that we reconnected with two years ago.  It was great for the gal and I to get together by ourselves and chat about our current season of life.
I hope you have a wonderful Friday and have a great weekend.
Blessings to you! Noreen & Hunter

Night Extravaganza Winter Carnival

I hope you have had a wonderful Valentine's Day so far. My dear man has blessed me so much-several roses, cards, he cleaned the house while I was gone and he is taking me out to dinner. Needless to say, I am the luckiest woman in the world. Here are the photos from the evening celebration; enjoy!

Winter Carnival III

Good Afternoon My Friends~I hope you day has gone smoothly and that you are enjoying life! Here are more photos of the races, for your enjoyment. Can't you just picture these ranchers being from decades past.

Just wanted to show you the jump that the children went over; the longest jump was 44' and the boy did a face plant in the snow but was fine. These kids really know how to catch some air.

Next we got to see grown men riding a grain shovel down the street; the styles were so different and comical ,as well as some of the costumes.

Some of you asked to see my new cut/color as well as my new glasses. By the time I got home last night from the salon, it was too late to take a pic, so my girl Kim took this earlier. I will say that although it was more expensive than I initially thought, the gal did an incredible job with color as well as cut-in fact she fixed the problems my last gal did. I'm a happy camper now.  I know it doesn't really doesn't show the total impact, the cut is like a high wedge and Kim said it is the best cut I've had in many years, here in Colorado. I think it will be easy to maintain, just wash and wear.

Speaking of wash and wear, our Hunter is about to get a bath-he just doesn't know it yet. One of the many benefits of having a small dog who fits in the kitchen sink.
 Joy to you~Noreen & Hunter

Winter Carnival II

Happy Tuesday Friends; I hope your day has been off to a good start. Most of these photos don't need any caption but I do want to draw your attention to the age of these kids. I guess when you grow up in a town like Steamboat, known for the high number of Olympics athletes, skiing is as natural as walking for many. I also wanted to give a hats-off salute to the ranchers that participated as well; they not only had to take care of their own livestock at home, but then to come and spend the day putting on a show. Click to enlarge any photo for a better view.
I love seeing the horses in mid-stride

I've got a pretty easy day today: walking Hunter, going to the gym(about time wouldn't you say!)and I'm going to a new hair salon today for color and cut. A local gal whose prices made my jaw drop but hopefully what extra I pay her makes up in quality and also less gas to get to my old gal. Sometimes, I think a gal has to try some new places every now and again. It is cold here but the sun is shining and the sky blue. Hope you have a fantastic day filled with giggles and smiles.

Wish You Were There!

Hey Friends~All I can say about our weekend was that it was over the top fantastic! We had a wonderful drive over with blue skies and no snow; came across this herd of Bighorn Sheep but hubby couldn't stop as we had a car coming up behind us pretty fast. I also had the telephoto on and trying to get a shot of the sheep was almost impossible, because they were so close to the car.

The above two shots were from the condo on Friday night after the snow started. It was beautiful, but oh so cold.

We had never heard of the Winter Carnival before and let me tell you that I/we are planning on going back next year. It was such fun-the Main Street, Hi.40 is shut down for the weekend and snow is packed in for the races. I've always said I'm a country girl at heart and I also a bit cowgirl. I have never been to such a wonderful family event; this year Steamboat celebrated their 100th Anniversary of the Winter Carnival and boy did they put on a show. I will say it was so cold that I ended up getting a new pair of snow boots because my Merrill's just weren't keeping me warm or dry.  I also learned more about layering and the importance of good heavy wool socks when you are standing outside for hours on end.  As you can see, above, local ranchers bring their horses into town and pull children of all ages down Main Street trying to make the fastest time.  The children's ages ranged from 5 yrs-15 yrs old; there was also a shovel race where adults rode shovels behind the horses.  These were not slow races either-the horses were at a gallop; however there were some little ones that were pulled at a slower pace.  Most of the children that live there grow up skiing and participating and let me tell you that they were good.  We took so many photos that you can be sure I'll be sharing all week.  I was told that the night time fireworks show was exceptional because of the 100th year celebration-but I will say I've never seen a better show in all of my years-that includes Disneyland, Disneyworld and Epcot Center.  So stay tuned for more fun!!!!
Hope our dear friends on the East Coast are staying warm and safe!
Hugs, Noreen & Hunter
