From My Library

              Nancy Mehl is a new author to me and I found Inescapable a good book.  It is an easy read and one you can pick up and get through within a day.  Set in a Mennonite community, a young woman finds herself leaving all that she has ever known.  Lizzie makes a life for herself and her daughter in a big city but finds her security there taken away by a stalker.  Returning home seems like her only choice and what she finds surprises her.  What once was a repressive and unfriendly environment now is a safe haven.  The residents welcome her and she feels more and more like this could be the answer to the peace she has been searching for.  Nancy weaves mystery gently into her story and a background into the Mennonite beliefs.  I would encourage you to get this book.  I look forward to reading more of Nancy’s books.   I did not receive any payment for this review. 

Another Great Book

Karen Kingsbury has been one of my favorite authors for many, many years.  Somehow though I have gotten out of reading her books when they first come out.  On the weekend, I hit the library and located this; it was like catching up with family members.  If you've never read any of her books, I would say start at the beginning with the 9/11; in actuality you could begin with any of her series as long as it was the first book. This story revolves around Bailey Flanigan and her career as well as some of my favorite characters, Ashley and Landon and their family.  Karen even has a character in the story who is a quarterback for Bailey's dad's college football team and if I didn't know better I'd swear it is taken after our Broncos quarterback, Tim Tebow.  A great read!  Check your library out for this book; I'll be trying to get there in the next day or so to get the next book in the series.

From My Library

Several months ago, my good friend Kim from http://lifeatgoldenpines.blogspot.com/ held a drawing for this book and I was the lucky recipient of it.  If you don't know Kim, she is a remarkable women who rescues Golden Retrievers and who has a heart of gold. This year alone has been a tough one for Kim; she lost seven dogs and for those of us dog people you know what a toll the death of one pup takes on us can you imagine how difficult it has been to lose so many? Kim has many jewels in her crown in heaven.  I am so thankful that I have gotten to know her over the last several years; she has been such a support and encouragement to me during Reggie's different health issues.
The book she sent me is about another gal who has rescued Goldens over the years~Holli Pfau.  Although it took me awhile to get to this book, it was a great read; although I will say I not only laughed but also sobbed at times.  You see, all my life I have bonded so deeply with my dog,s that when there time on earth is over I grieve so heavily.  Holli was a Ca. girl until she and her hubby moved to Durango, Colorado;  of course I immediately connected to her because of those two facts.  I haven't yet been to Durango but am now even more eager to trek down there and see the sights she described in her book.  Durango is a dog-friendly town, very much like Carmel California, and I'm hoping to get down there this summer.  Holli has gotten into dog trials, obedience, agility, etc.  This book was one that I will keep in my library for the future.  I love the personalities of Goldens but unfortunately won't be able to get one due to their hair; I'm hoping that when the time comes for our next dog, it will have a personality like a Golden.

FROM MY LIBRARY~I finished this book over the weekend and had to share it with you.  I have read all of Jennifer's books and so totally enjoyed it; it reminded me of her early books and the main character was Bonnie, a quilt store owner and part of the Elm Creek Quilters.  I loved the setting of this book-Lahaina and I actually wondered if some of the sights were really there.  Hubby and I vacation on Kauai but we have spent time on Maui.  The rich history of Hawaiian quilts inspired me and helped me appreciate them more. 
A side not is that on Friday when I spent the day with the Master Quilter, she had just finished a Hawaiian quilt and I felt that I knew a bit more on the background when I looked at it.  For those of you who are familiar with Jennifer's books, I would highly recommend this one.  I can't wait until she comes out with a new book.
It's windy here today so I think I'll be inside again in front of my machine; I'm hoping to get the top pieced by Sunday so I can put everything away before our family arrives, but also that I have something new to show them.

FROM MY BOOKSHELF~   Prior to going on our vacation, I purchased two of Jennifer's books that I didn't have.  Whenever I fly, I love having a book in hand, just in case there is turbulence.  Although I just finished reading this, as always Jennifer told a tale that was filled with history; her characters rich and developed with quilting woven through.  Simply delightful, as I always expect from her. 
 We had a very nice weekend, very relaxed but I did get to Barnes & N*bles to purchase our youngest daughter's birthday presents; she is our Christmas birthday but this weekend B&N were offering a coupon of 50% off one book if you "liked" them on FB.  Who could resist?  Yesterday I went to church first thing, what a way to start the day!  Hubby and I did go out for lunch and then came home to watch the Broncos beat the Raiders; all the while I was sewing.  Go Bronco's!!!! 
I hope you also had a relaxing weekend and are staying healthy.  I have a bit of a stuffy nose this morning and am not sure if it is allergies or a mild cold.  I'll walk a bit later today and then meet a friend for lunch.
