Birds of a Feather

Yesterday we took a peak at the nest on our front porch; we had discovered that at least one egg was bad, we took that out but one other is under the babies so we left it. They are getting bigger each day and often poke their heads out of the container.

At Carrie's house, they've had a Killdeer nesting; this bird nests in the rocks. As I approached her, she immediately went after me.  If a group approaches, the mom will limp off away from the nest pretending she is injured.

You can see the gray speckled eggs; once they hatch she moves them pretty quickly.  Carrie found two other Killdeer nesting in adjoining pastures.
She spreads out her tail and makes a very interesting sound; I imagine this is her defense technique.
I so enjoy seeing the baby birds but once they're gone I won't worry about people coming to the front door.
It is rainy and cold here today; a help for the firefighters working on the fire north of here, but for those of us who'd rather be outside gardening, it is a bummer. The forecast for the next week though is nice warm weather; for now gardening can wait and books are waiting to be read.
Happy Saturday~Noreen & Hunter

Lovely to see the little birds! We have a bird who lays her eggs in the grass and uses the same technique to keep people away!
We too have grey weather where I am in Wales. We are supposed to have a bit of summer next week. As my youngest grandson would say 'Oh yeah'! Have a good weekend. Joan

Oh the babies are so cute. It is so much fun to watch them grown ad when they take thier first attempt to fly. You are in for a great time. Hopefully the killdeer will get her babies to safety quickly. we have a nest like that out by the lake I take Bert to and we have set up cones around it so noeon will walk over them.

Aren't they so cute? I love those little killdeer. We used to have (what we called) whip-poor-wills down in the footbridge area of our farm when I was kid. When you went down there and they were nesting the mother would jump just ahead of you and drag one wing like she was injured to distract you from her babies. I always thought that was just amazing.

I hope you get some pictures of them as they grow and leave the nest-xo Diana

Hi Noreen,
what a fun treat to have those sweet baby birds outside your front door.
We had some in our shed once, and we enjoyed it so much! They are just so sweet. That Killdeer is interesting,
never heard of that kind of bird, but funny she lays her eggs on the ground int he rocks, so interesting how she protects them. I just love God's
creativity in his wildlife. lol
Thanks for coming by and for your comments on my gift for our one year Anniversary kids! Thanks!
I so enjoyed doing it.............

I saw a trampoline when I accidentally scrolled too far, so gonna have to check it out, as we used to have one in our backyard for many years when the kids were growing up. Lots of fun!

Have a Great week ahead hon,
Love, Nellie
This wedding was a family only per daugher, so didn't get to go. Can't wait to hear how it all went.

The little birds are so adorable. We had killdeer eggs in our neighborhood last summer ... in the neighbor's landscaping right along the street. The mama did the same thing ... faking a limp, trying to lure me away from the eggs ... no real nest to speak of ... just eggs nestled in the rocks ... if you didn't know what to look for, you would have thought the eggs were just more rocks.

Hope you had a great weekend!
